The City of Tea Tree Gully is excited to announce the acquisition of Sfera’s Park Suites and Convention Centre, a well-established local business adjacent to Civic Park in the Modbury precinct.
We are enthusiastic about the acquisition of this property and look forward to continuing the work started by the Sfera family who have owned and operated the venue for nearly 27 years.
Many in the community are familiar with the facility, having hosted numerous school formals and graduations, sporting presentation nights, weddings and other events. Council regularly utilises the venue for citizenship ceremonies and other events.
We are committed to ensuring continued access for the community and the venue will continue to operate as a multifaceted facility, offering accommodation, venue hire, function rooms and convention space.
We recognise the importance of continuity for our community, valued customers and stakeholders. Therefore, we are committed to honouring all existing bookings and maintaining operations seamlessly. New customers will be also welcomed to the business.
Michael Sfera, the current General Manager of Sfera’s Park Suites and Convention Centre, and also the architect of the major expansion of the centre including the addition high amenity conferencing, cafe and accommodation in 2007 has been retained by the Council to assist in the transition of the facility into Council operations. His involvement will help ensure that customers continue to receive the same high standard of service and quality they have come to expect.
The acquisition allows us to retain accommodation to support visitors to the area and medical outpatients at the Modbury Hospital, as well as providing employment opportunities and traineeships for young people in our area.
Financial analysis has confirmed that the business can generate sufficient cash flows after operating costs to off-set Council’s expenses and will not lead to an increase in rates.
The current Sfera staff are a vital part of this business, and we will uphold their working conditions as we move forward. Randstad Recruitment Company will provide staff management to support our operational needs, similar to the arrangement at Waterworld, with potential opportunities for resource sharing.
The Sfera family will continue to operate the business until March 2025. Additionally, the council has recently acquired the freehold property at 171 Reservoir Road. A new owner and business will be operating from there in early 2025.
